Why I think of Kelly and smile...

Kelly, of Cancun Canuck always makes me smile. Even when she isnt doing anything. It is just the fact that she is from Canada and lives in Mexico. Why is that a reason to smile? Let me tell you.

Back in 2003 my husband had gone back to Honduras for a time, and I was home alone with the kids. I had a good friend who lived in the apartment next door, and she was also alone with her kids. Her husband was in jail. So I would take the baby monitor and head on over to her house and hang out at night since we both were up half the night anyway. This friend and I have been friends since high school, and we worked at KFC together for 10 some years.

In November of 2003 I moved out of that apartment, and into a different one. So instead of going to her house, I would call her and we would talk all night long. Well for those of you who are up late at night know that as the night goes on, EVERYTHING is funny, and it just gets more and more funny the later it gets. Well at that time KFC was open late, and we all know that Taco Bell is open late too. And we both knew people who worked at various KFC's and Taco Bells, so we would crank call them. We both have 3 way calling, so I would call one KFC, and she would call another KFC at the same time, then we would have her and I, plus the two KFC's on the line. And the managers would answer, usually the same time, and they would argue over who called who and what did they want. We would call Taco Bell and KFC as well and do the same thing. Seriously it was funny at 2AM. Well with the phone plans that we had, we could call Canada as well as Mexico for free. (now you see where Kelly comes into this...) So I would call different Denny's and IHOP's in Canada and Mexico and ask all sorts of things. In Canada I would they would either speak French or English, so I would talk tot hem in Spanish. In Mexico they obviously spoke Spanish, so I would speak English, or I would throw in the few Hindu phrases I knew (I can say I love you and I want to make love to you in Hindu) just for fun. Oh yeah and the few German phrases, and some Pig Latin. Anything but what they spoke. Ah the good old days.

We would also crank call different people with this recording, and the people would answer and they would hear the man saying hello, but they wouldnt hear the rest of it. They would get mad at Mr Spindel yelling at him. Juvenile yes. Fun - oh hell yeah. But I am now a grown up, so no more crank calling for me ;)

I have never been much of a prank caller... it just never worked out right. I should come over, and let you show me how it's done! =)

We would call people and when they said hello we would hang up. Like that was sooo cool!! LOL!! That was back before caller ID. I bet it's harder to prank call people now.

Too funny. I had a friend who was a stinker and would crank call old people. She got hooked on one victim when she tried to call me back when we first started hanging out in 7th grade. The first three numbers of my (old) number was 566 but she accidentally dialed 561. Anyway, the people on the other end were older and a bit cranky and my friend had no mercy. She called them every so often up until I think a few years ago. I, in fact, got this video in a email and sent it to her saying "remind you of anyone?"

and p.s. your daughter's blog is adorable. Good writing!
